Drawing is the primary, simplest pictorial medium from which primitive and children’s creativity begins, but as a result of a long development the drawing made up one of the most important and widely developed areas of fine art and underlies all kinds of artistic images on the plane (painting, graphics). It constitutes the initial stage of work on the product of plastic arts, plays a crucial role in determining the outlines of the form, the volume of objects and their location in space.

Definition of Concept

Drawing in a broad sense is understood as a set of linear plastic elements of plastic arts. Michelangelo called it “the highest dot of the painting, sculpture and architecture.” Drawing, primarily from nature, serves as an analysis of the shape and design of the figures and objects depicted, which makes it one of the most important means of knowing and studying the artist’s reality. Drawing, including educational one from life, memory, and imagination, is the basis of art education. As an independent field of creativity, it is the main kind of graphics.

Thus, this is the basis of all kinds of fine arts. Since the 18th century, the word “drawing” has become the term that designates an effigy as the creation of an image with the help of lines, traits important for recognizing the features of an object such as shape, size, structure, movement that are transmitted in all forms of art.

Drawing Components

  1. A dot is an element that can be obtained by touching a pencil, a brush, a chalk to the image plane, or by intersecting strokes and lines. The dot participates in the image of light and shade and the linear construction of the form as a support, so this dot is called the supportive dot. The position of the dot on the plane is determined by the coordinates. In art, the coordinates of length and height are used, in other words, the distance from the vertical and horizontal lines of the contour, from auxiliary ones, specially drawn for this purpose, or from the edges of the sheet to the dot being Checking the position of the dot is reduced to checking the ratio of coordinate values, which are measured with a pencil in full accordance with the adopted coordinate system.
  2. The line is the most popular visual medium. It is depicted by any material and technical means such as a cutter, a pen, a pencil and a brush. By the nature of the line, there are straight ones and curves. To draw a straight line, you have to mark its place on the paper with a dot, then by short connecting thin strokes to outline the specified line direction, check the direction with a pencil, and straightness with an eye.
Checking the straightness occurs visually: a sheet of paper with a printed line is placed at eye level, then as a result of the perspective reduction of the visual plane, even very small bends of the line become noticeable.
  3. A spot is a piece of a sheet of paper, covered with a stroke or a brush. A stroke that gives a tonal spot can be a means of expressiveness of the picture itself.
